It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Grounded”, oil on brushed aluminum, 19″ x 15″, SOLD Violet Iris in the Miami Spectrum Art Show, 2016. “Aerial Blush”, oil on aluminum, 15″ x 19″, $975 Center section. “Switchbacks” , oil on brushed aluminum, 40″ x 40″, $5600 Moon over the NJ Shore #2 Moon over the NJ Shore #1 Soft Pink, 36″ x 48″ Off Trail in Park City, Oil on canvas, 13″ x 16″ , $700 “Tidal Pool”, 24″x24″, oil on linen, $1700 “Sherwood Inverted”, 24″ x 36″, oil on steel, $2400 framed Louise Bourgeois, Maman Home from Deer Valley, 24″x24″ sold “Plaza Mayor”, 14″ x 14″ oil on canvas, $600 Seaweed, 16″ x 12″, oil paint on a brushed aluminum panel, $975 “Switchbacks” , oil on brushed aluminum, 40″ x 40″, $5600 “Slide”, 23″ x 23″ oil on aluminum, Sold George Bellows, just look at that blue, more snow and steam.
