Violet Iris in the Miami Spectrum Art Show, 2016. I became obsessed with Street Art on the platform of the LIRR. It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “First Snow”, 40″ x 40″, Oil on steel, $5600 Snakes and Snails Moonlight on the Sound, oil on steel, 35 x 38, $2900 Otherworldly Places Cone Flower Farm View From Partrick Bridge, 24″ x 36″ Sold “Calm Before the Storm”, oil on aluminum, 17″ x 19″, $1000 “Spotlights” in The ArtBox Gallery, Zurich, Switzerland Amoeba Flora Solar Reveal, 42″ x 54″ oil on steel, Sold Chasing Waterfalls, detail 3, oil on brushed aluminum, 51” x 39” “Sherwood Inverted”, 24″ x 36″, oil on steel, $2400 framed “Wildflower Meadow”, 24″ x 36″, oil on steel, $500 framed Spring Thaw, oil on a brushed aluminum panel, 39″ x 39″, $5300 Trent Call’s Road Biker “Lava Fields”, 38″ x 50″, Oil on Steel, Sold Moth-flower Aglow Crawling Under, oil on brushed aluminum, 19″ x 15″, $975 “Plaza Mayor”, 14″ x 14″ oil on canvas, $600 “Weeping Sky”, oil on aluminum, 51″ x 39″, Sold Kaleidoscope, oil on aluminum panel, 39″ x 39″, $5300 Earth Day Clean Up, before… “Lava Fields” in a Park City home.
