It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “First Snow”, 40″ x 40″, Oil on steel, $5600 Smith Barn, Oil on canvas, 11″ x 14″, $550 Vivian Westwood Georgiana, 10″ x 12″, oil on canvas, $400 “Switchbacks” , oil on brushed aluminum, 40″ x 40″, $5600 Sherwood Island, Winter Beach, oil on canvas, 18″ x 18″,$1100 “Early Morning Road to JFK” in a New Mexico desert home. “Silvery Moon” Triptych, 48″ x 100″ appx, oil on aluminum, Sold Silver Road, oil on aluminum, 39″ x 39″, Sold “Skating on the Bridge”, 51″ x 51″, oil on aluminum panel, Sold Whitecaps, oil on brushed aluminum 19″ x 15″, $975 “Silver Snow” in a modern New Mexico retreat. “Moonlight Reflections”, oil on brushed aluminum, 27″ x 27″, SOLD Early Morning Pond, 16″ x 19″ framed, Oil on canvas, $400, Utah Surreal Monster Flowers Eya- og Miklaholtshreppur, Western Iceland “Indigo Rain”, oil on brushed aluminum, 15″ x 19″, Sold “Slide”, 23″ x 23″ oil on aluminum, Sold Lava Road, 36″ x 51″ Oil on steel, $5500 Amoeba Flora “Whispers”, oil on aluminum, 39″ x 51″, $6900 “Full Tilt”, 37″ x 39″, oil on aluminum, $5100 “Spotlights” in The ArtBox Gallery, Zurich, Switzerland Trent Call’s Film Maker Gallery wall detail of Celestial Rhapsody and my sunset paintings!
