It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Beaver Creek Trail”, 21″ x 22″, oil on steel, $1400 “Going Home”, 13″ x 15″, oil on canvas, $725 Jellyfish Sky, 16″ x 12″, oil paint on a brushed aluminum panel, $975 “Red Sky at Night”, 24″ x 24″, oil on linen, $1700 Shine On, 19″ x 38″, oil paint on a brushed aluminum panel, $2200 “Silver Falls”, 40″x 40″, Oil on steel, Sold Shine On, 19″ x 38″, oil paint on a brushed aluminum panel, $2200 “Indigo Rain”, oil on brushed aluminum, 15″ x 19″, Sold Metamophosis in the Artbox Gallery booth at the Spectrum Miami show, 2016. “Electrical Storm”, 19″ x 38″, oil on aluminum, $2200 Silver Road, oil on aluminum, 39″ x 39″, Sold First Thaw, oil on canvas, 16″ x16″ framed. “Summer Storm”, 15.5″ x 19.5″, etching ink on paper, $975 Richard Hambleton, $75,000 Cliffs of Carmel, oil on linen, 20″ x 20″, $1200 “Switchbacks” , oil on brushed aluminum, 40″ x 40″, $5600 Temple Lily Summer Storm/Summer Storm Shadow $900 each, & Big Red, $7250, in a NYC apartment.
