Essence

Essence explores the space between landscape and abstraction, where light, atmosphere, memory and place begin to transform the recognizable into something less certain. Through transparency, reflection, layering and removal, McLoughlin considers passage, time and the possibility of what may exist beyond what we immediately see but may somehow sense. Painted on brushed aluminum panels, these original oil paintings allow fragments of landscape to emerge and recede, creating overlapping states that feel at once familiar and unknown.
