I became obsessed with Street Art on the platform of the LIRR. It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Jamian Juliano-Villani, a contemporary painter who mixes art historical, fashion and pop culture references to create humorous representations of our materialistic era. Her work addresses the changed nature of everyday life in the age of the internet-the dizzying juxtaposition of images, styles, and identities in the media-amid the dissolution of such long-established standards as “authorship” and copyright.” I became obsessed with Street Art on the platform of the LIRR. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Midnight Ride”, oil on brushed aluminum, 51″ x 39″, $6900 Smith Barn, Oil on canvas, 11″ x 14″, $550 Lava Road, 36″ x 51″, oil on steel, $6400 Louise Bourgeois, Maman Red Sky at Night #2, oil paint on a brushed aluminum panel, 27″ x 27″, SOLD Wild Flower, 24″ x 36″ “Salt Lake Sky”, 20″ x 30″, oil on linen, $1800 “Sky Scrapers”, oil on brushed aluminum, 19″ x 15″, $975 Murdock Peak – Altitude, 9602’ “Silver Snow” in a modern New Mexico retreat. “Delphinium”, acrylic spray paint on steel, 51″x 39″, $7250 “First Snow”, 40″ x 40″, Oil on steel, $5600 Soft Pink, 36″ x 48″ “Blue Horizon”, oil on aluminum, 19″ x 15″ $975 Lauren’s Rose, 38″ x 48″,Acrylic on recycled, distressed board, $6400, Salt Lake City, 19″ x 34″, oil on linen $1900 Summer Storm, 24″ x 36″ unframed, Oil on canvas, Sold Promontory Home Installation, Park City, Utah! “I’ll be right in the next room…which was never close enough after a nightmare”.
