Jamian Juliano-Villani, a contemporary painter who mixes art historical, fashion and pop culture references to create humorous representations of our materialistic era. Her work addresses the changed nature of everyday life in the age of the internet-the dizzying juxtaposition of images, styles, and identities in the media-amid the dissolution of such long-established standards as “authorship” and copyright.”

I became obsessed with Street Art on the platform of the LIRR. It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top.
