It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Spotlights”, oil on brushed aluminum, 19″ x 15″, SOLD Violet Iris, acrylic spray paint on steel, 39″ x 51″, Sold Cheshire Flora Mountain Triptych, panel 3 of 3, 24″ x 48″, Oil on aluminum “Tidal Pool”, 24″x24″, oil on linen, $1700 “Sky Scrapers”, oil on brushed aluminum, 19″ x 15″, $975 “First Snow”, 40″ x 40″, Oil on steel, $5600 Lakeside View “Devil’s Den”, 30″ x 34″, oil on natural linen, $3000 Wild Flower, 24″ x 36″ Trent Call’s Tweety Bird with Mining Carts “Shady Stars”, 21″ x 21″, acrylic spray paint on steel, Sold “Plaza Mayor”, 14″ x 14″ oil on canvas, $600 “Black Ice”, oil on aluminum, 24”x 24”, Sold Carmen, acrylic on steel, 39″ x 51″,$7250 The Road Less Traveled, oil on canvas 36″ x 72″, $7800 Malieficent Metamorphosis “Silver Falls”, 40″x 40″, Oil on steel, Sold Spiraling Fauna, 2015, 39 x 51, oil on steel, Sold “Carmen”, 39″ x 51″, acrylic spray paint on steel, $7250 Sheffield Island, 24″ x 36″ Sold Solar Reveal, 42″ x 54″ oil on steel, Sold “Midnight Ride”, oil on brushed aluminum, 39″ x 51″, $6900 Breakthrough, oil on brushed aluminum panel, 51″ x 51″ “Tropical Red”, 21″x 21″ acrylic spray paint on steel, Sold Summer’s Twilight, oil on brushed aluminum, 19″ x19″, $1250 Neon Rose, 36″ x 48″ unframed, Acrylic on steel, $350, California Carmen and me at the Stricoff Gallery during Armory Show Week in 2018. “Silver Lake”, 39″ x 27″, Oil on steel, $3700 Salt Lake City, 19″ x 34″, oil on linen $1900 Summer Storm Shadow, 15.5″ x 19.5″ etching ink on paper, $975 Cliffs of Carmel, oil on linen, 20″ x 20″, $1200 Louise Bourgeois, Maman Lady Fingers Stillness in Motion, Oil on white aluminum panel, 51″ x 51″, “Metamorphosis”, acrylic spray paint on steel, 39″ x 51″, $6000 Playful Orange, 36″ x 48″ “Metamorphosis”, acrylic spray paint on steel, 39″ x 51″, $6000 Western Dreams, oil on brushed aluminum panel, 27 x 27 $2750.
