It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “View from Partrick Bridge 2″, Oil on steel, 29″ x 42”. $3700 Vines above Carmen, acrylic on steel, 39″ x 51″,$7250 Earth Day after clean up, after! “Sherwood Inverted”, 25″ x 37″, oil on steel, $3300 Violet Iris, acrylic spray paint on steel, 39″ x 51″, Sold “Midnight Ride”, oil on brushed aluminum, 39″ x 51″, $6900 “Crevice”, oil on aluminum, 40″ x 52″, $6900 Open Wide and say Ahhhh “Black Ice”, oil on aluminum, 24”x 24”, Sold Delphinium, $7250 in a NYC apartment. “Silver Ridgelines”, 38’x 39″, oil on aluminum, Sold Chasing Waterfalls, detail 3, oil on brushed aluminum, 51” x 39” Amoeba Flora “Fairy Flower”, 36″ x 48″, acrylic on canvas, $7300 Shadow Woman – Patriot, oil on brushed aluminum, 27″ x 27″, $2250 Overton’s, 24″ x 36″, Oil on aluminum “Tidal Pool”, 24″x24″, oil on linen, $1700 Lauren’s Rose, 38″ x 48″,Acrylic on recycled, distressed board, $6400, Classic, amazing landscape.
