I became obsessed with Street Art on the platform of the LIRR. It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “right-beside-me,” oil painting by Carol O’Malia “Tuileries”, oil on linen, 24″ x 24″ $1700 Japanese Maples, oil on linen, 23″ x 23″, $1600 Back Porch View, Tannery Road, oil on canvas, 18″ x 20″, $1100 Red Truck, (in progress), 27 x 33, oil on brushed aluminum, $3100 “Electrical Storm”, 19″ x 38″, oil on aluminum, $2200 Sundance in Summer, oil on linen, 32″ x 26″, $2900 Shine On, 19″ x 38″, oil paint on a brushed aluminum panel, $2200 “Sherwood Inverted”, 25″ x 37″, oil on steel, $3300 Moth-flower Aglow “Skating on the Bridge”, 51″ x 51″, oil on aluminum panel, Sold Surreal Parade Lauren’s Rose, 38″ x 46″ Vortex Sherwood Island, Winter Beach, oil on canvas, 18″ x 18″,$1100 Spiraling Fauna, 2015, 39 x 51, oil on steel, Sold Playful Orange, 36″ x 48″ “Wildflower Meadow”, 24″ x 36″, oil on steel, $500 framed “Tuileries”, oil on linen, 24″ x 24″ $1700 Cone Flower Farm Solar Reveal, 42″ x 54″ oil on steel, Sold Off Trail in Park City, Oil on canvas, 13″ x 16″ , $700 “Silver Falls”, 40″x 40″, Oil on steel, Sold Trent Call’s Skateboarder Cynthia & Tom 2019 Treasure Hollow, oil on brushed aluminum, 27″ x 33″,$2900 “Fairy Flower”, 36″ x 48″, acrylic on canvas, $7300 “Lava Fields”, 38″ x 50″, Oil on Steel, Sold Rob Wynne, 2017, a newish acquisition, a whole series on poured mirrored glass.
