It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Connor’s Ride”, 12 x 12, oil on linen, $600 “Slide”, 23″ x 23″ oil on aluminum, Sold Entrance to the SCOPE Art Show, Miami Beach! “Tidal Pool”, 24″x24″, oil on linen, $1700 Contrasts, 12″ x 12″ Sold Red Truck, (in progress), 27 x 33, oil on brushed aluminum, $3100 Georgiana, oil on canvas, 10″ x 12″, $425 Bleeding Poppy, 16″x 16″ Red Sky at Night #2, oil paint on a brushed aluminum panel, 27″ x 27″, SOLD Snakes and Snails The Kemper, Kansas City, MO Salt Lake City, 19″ x 34″, oil on linen $1900 “Grounded”, oil on brushed aluminum, 19″ x 15″, SOLD “Carmen”, 39″ x 51″, acrylic spray paint on steel, $7250 Whitecaps, oil on brushed aluminum 19″ x 15″, $975 “Where There is Smoke, There is Fire” 16″ x 18″, oil on aluminum, $975. “Matrix”, oil on brushed aluminum, 19″ x 15″, SOLD Summer Storm/Summer Storm Shadow $900 each, &Big Red, $7250, in a NYC apartment.
