Violet Iris in the Miami Spectrum Art Show, 2016. I became obsessed with Street Art on the platform of the LIRR. It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Aqua Shots”, 21″x 21″, acrylic spray paint on steel, Sold Fire on the Mountain, oil on brushed aluminum, 27″ x 27″, $2500 Sundance in Summer, oil on linen, 32″ x 26″, $2900 Dart River, New Zealand Downstream, Hope Creek, oil on canvas, 21″ x 21″, $1350 Surreal Parade Kings Highway North, Oil on steel, 40″ x 30″, $3600 Home from Deer Valley, 24″x24″ sold “Beaver Creek Trail”, 21″ x 22″, oil on steel, $1400 “Early Morning Road to JFK”, 16″ x 35″, oil on steel, Sold “Beaver Creek Trail”, 21″ x 22″, oil on steel, $1400 Solar Reveal, 42″ x 54″ oil on steel, Sold Silver Road, oil on aluminum, 39″ x 39″, Sold “Spotlights” in The ArtBox Gallery, Zurich, Switzerland Dancing Pine, 10″ x 12″, oil on canvas, $400 “Silvery Moon” Triptych, 48″ x 100″ appx, oil on aluminum, Sold Vortex Metamophosis in the Artbox Gallery booth at the Spectrum Miami show, 2016.
