It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Delphinium”, acrylic spray paint on steel, 51″x 39″, $7250 Silver Horizon, oil on aluminum,15″ x 19″, Sold Summer Storm/Summer Storm Shadow $900 each, &Big Red, $7250, in a NYC apartment. “Midnight Ride”, oil on brushed aluminum, 51″ x 39″, $6900 “Half Moon Bay”, 24″ x 24″,oil on linen, $1700 “Full Tilt-Vertical”, Oil on brushed aluminum panel, 51″ x 39″, SOLD “Calm Before the Storm”, oil on aluminum, 17″ x 19″, $1000 “Silver Snow”, 39″ x 51″, Oil on steel, Sold “Switchbacks” , oil on brushed aluminum, 40″ x 40″, $5600 Solar Reveal, 42″ x 54″ oil on steel, Sold “Connor’s Ride” 14″ x 14″, oil on linen, $600 Twisted Web, oil on brushed aluminum, 19″ x 15″, $975 “Salt Lake Sky”, 20″ x 30″, oil on linen, $1800 Sundance in Summer, oil on linen, 32″ x 26″, $2900 Underpass, Into the Light, oil on brushed aluminum. 39″ x 39″, $5300 Silver Road, oil on aluminum, 39″ x 39″, $5300 Trent Call’s Couple out on the Town “First Snow”, 40″x 40″, oil on aluminum, $5600 Southold Beach, 20″ x 20, $1400 Summer Storm/Summer Storm Shadow $900 each, & Big Red, $7250, in a NYC apartment. “Silver Meadow”, 24″ x 36″, oil on steel, $2600 Very cool abstract and inspires thoughts for my abstract hatch mark paintings.
