It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Sherwood Inverted”, 25″ x 37″, oil on steel. “Wildflower Meadow”, 24″ x 36″, oil on steel, $500 framed Transcendental Dreams, oil on aluminum, 39” x 27”, $3600 per panel. “Full Tilt”, 37″ x 39″, oil on aluminum, $5100 Vortex Playful Orange, 36″ x 48″ Mouth of the Gorge, Dart River, New Zealand Trent Call’s Pussy Cat Otherworldly Places Solar Reveal, 42″ x 54″ oil on steel, Sold Mountain Triptych, panel 2 of 3, 24″ x 48″, Oil on aluminum, $7000 “Silver Lining” in a San Francisco Bay area home. “Midnight Ride”, oil on brushed aluminum, 51″ x 39″, $6900 Work in progress “Day is Done”, oil on brushed aluminum, 15″ x 19″, $975 Wim Botha, 21c, Crystal Bridges Trip, Bentonville Lava Road, 36″ x 51″ Oil on steel, $5500 Firestorm, oil on brushed aluminum, 27″ x 51″, Sold “Beaver Creek Trail”, 21″ x 22″, oil on steel, $1400 Mountain Triptych, panel 3 of 3, 24″ x 48″, Oil on aluminum “Indigo Rain”, oil on brushed aluminum, 15″ x 19″, Sold Mountain Triptych, panel 1 of 3, 24″ x 48″, Oil on aluminum Aspen Eyes A Giant’s View, 24″ x 36″ Devils Den, 25″ x 29″ oil on natural linen, $2500 Trent Call’s Running Guy Rob Wynne, 2017, a newish acquisition, a whole series on poured mirrored glass. Snow and steam done oh so well… I became obsessed with Street Art on the platform of the LIRR.
