At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Pony Marsh #2, 11” x 14″+ frame, Sold Utah Skies, 15″ x 30″ oil on canvas, $1400 Smith Barn, Oil on canvas, 11″ x 14″, $550 “First Snow”, 40″x 40″, oil on aluminum, $5600 “Silver Lining”, 41″ X 41″, oil on steel, Sold “Vertigo”, 24″ x 36″, oil on steel, Sold Frost, oil on brushed aluminum panel, 19″ x 15″ “Metamorphosis”, acrylic spray paint on steel, 39″ x 51″, $6000 Lava Road, 36″ x 51″, oil on steel, $6400 Snowbird Melting, oil on brushed aluminum panel, 51 x 51, $8750 Pestilence arrives in NYC “Moonlight Reflections”, oil on brushed aluminum, 27″ x 27″, SOLD “Silver Lining” in a San Francisco Bay area home.
