It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Fairy Flower”, 36″ x 48″, acrylic on canvas, $7300 Creeping Arachnids Salt Lake City, 19″ x 34″, oil on linen $1900 Smith Barn, Oil on canvas, 11″ x 14″, $550 Sherwood Salt Marsh, 23″ x 29″, Oil on canvas, $1900, Delphinium, $7250, in a NYC apartment. “Red Sky at Night”, 24″ x 24″, oil on linen, $1700 Carmen, acrylic on steel, 39″ x 51″,$7250 The Road Less Traveled, oil on canvas 36″ x 72″, $7800 Georgiana, 10″ x 12″, oil on canvas, $400 Violet Iris, 36″ x 48″, acrylic on steel-$650, California Georgiana, oil on canvas, 10″ x 12″, $425 “Big Red”, 39″ x 51″, acrylic spray paint on steel, $7250 Desert Highway, oil on brushed aluminum, 27″ x 51″, Sold “Ridgelines”, 40″ x 52″, oil paint on an aluminum panel, $6900 Helgafellssveit, Western Iceland, Iceland Red Truck, (in progress), 27 x 33, oil on brushed aluminum, $3100 “Lava Fields”, 38″ x 50″, Oil on Steel, Sold “Skating on the Bridge”, 51″ x 51″, oil on aluminum panel, Sold Agnes Drecoll, French 1931-63 Murdock Peak – Altitude, 9602’ “First Snow”, 40″ x 40″, Oil on steel, $5600 Mountain Triptych, all panels, 48″ x 96″, Oil on aluminum, $7400 Lava Road, 36″ x 51″, oil on steel, $6400 Winter Beach #1, Oil on canvas, 14″ x 18″, $900 Earth Day Clean Up, before… “First Snow”, 40″x 40″, oil on aluminum, $5600 “Summer Storm”, 15.5″ x 19.5″, etching ink on paper, $975 “Skating on the Bridge”, 51″ x 51″, oil on aluminum panel, Sold Classic, amazing landscape.
