It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Butterfly Wings”, oil on brushed aluminum, 27″ x 27″, $2500 No Boundaries, oil on aluminum, 27″ x 27″, $2500 Bleeding Poppy, 16″x 16″ “Half Moon Bay”, 24″ x 24″,oil on linen, $1700 “Half Moon Bay”, 24″ x 24″,oil on linen, $1700 “First Snow”, 40″x 40″, oil on aluminum, $5600 Athos, oil paint on a brushed aluminum panel, 15″ x 15″, $800 “Indigo Rain”, oil on brushed aluminum, 15″ x 19″, Sold “Devil’s Den”, 30″ x 34″, oil on natural linen, $3000 Center section. “Devil’s Den”, 30″ x 34″, oil on natural linen, $3000 Soft Pink, 36″ x 48″ “Indigo Rain”, oil on brushed aluminum, 15″ x 19″, Sold “Silver Snow”, 39″ x 51″, Oil on steel, Sold Japanese Maples, oil on linen, 23″ x 23″, $1600 “Aerial Blush”, oil on aluminum, 15″ x 19″, $975 Silver Road, oil on aluminum, 39″ x 39″, $5300 “Blue Horizon”, oil on aluminum, 19″ x 15″ $975 “Spotlights”, oil on brushed aluminum, 19″ x 15″, SOLD “Silver Falls”, 40″x 40″, Oil on steel, Sold Very cool abstract and inspires thoughts for my abstract hatch mark paintings.
