It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. I became obsessed with Street Art on the platform of the LIRR. “Heber Barn”, 14″ x 14″, oil on canvas, $600 Winter Beach #2, Oil on canvas, 14″ x 18″, $900 Big Red, acrylic on steel, 39″ x 51″, $72500 Summer Storm Shadow, 15.5″ x 19.5″ etching ink on paper, $975 “Into the Storm”, 39″ x 51″, oil on steel, Sold Back Porch View, Tannery Road, oil on canvas, 18″ x 20″, $1100 September, 39 x 51, oil on brushed aluminum panel, $6900 “Vertigo”, 24″ x 36″, oil on steel, Sold Trent Call’s Film Maker View From Partrick Bridge, 24″ x 36″ Sold Soft Pink, 36″ x 48″ Snæfellsjökull National Park, Snæfellsbær, Western Iceland, Iceland Open Wide and say Ahhhh Desert Highway, oil on brushed aluminum, 27″ x 51″, Sold Wim Botha, 21c, Crystal Bridges Trip, Bentonville The Kemper, Kansas City, MO “Grey Sky at the Beach”, 8″ x 8″, oil on wood panel, $200 Early Morning Pond, 16″ x 19″ framed, Oil on canvas, $400, Utah “Matrix”, oil on brushed aluminum, 19″ x 15″, SOLD Red Sky at Night #2, oil paint on a brushed aluminum panel, 27″ x 27″, SOLD Through the Glade, oil on brushed aluminum,15″ x 15″, $825 Overton’s, 24″ x 36″, Oil on aluminum No Boundaries, oil on aluminum, 27″ x 27″, $2500 Smith Barn, Oil on canvas, 11″ x 14″, $550 Twilight 48th Street, oil on canvas, 18″ x 24″, $1300 Late Afternoon Snowbird Melting, oil on aluminum panel, 51″ x 51″, $8750 “I’ll be right in the next room…which was never close enough after a nightmare”.
