It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Full Tilt”, 37″ x 39″, oil on aluminum, $5100 Early Morning Pond, 16″ x 19″ framed, Oil on canvas, $400, Utah Devils Den, 25″ x 29″ oil on natural linen, $2500 Crawling Under, oil on brushed aluminum, 19″ x 15″, $975 “Delphinium”, acrylic spray paint on steel, 51″x 39″, $7250 Shine On, 19″ x 38″, oil paint on a brushed aluminum panel, $2200 “First Snow”, 40″ x 40″, Oil on steel, $5600 “Blue Horizon”, oil on aluminum, 19″ x 15″ $975 Ablaze, oil on brushed aluminum, 27 x 51, Sold Ablaze, oil on brushed aluminum, 27 x 51, $4100 Sand Island 18′ x 24″, oil on linen, $1300 Moon Shadow, oil on a brushed aluminum panel, 51″ x 51″, Sold “Spotlights”, oil on brushed aluminum, 19″ x 15″, SOLD “Ridgelines”, 40” x 52″, oil on aluminum, $7300 Big Red, acrylic on steel, 39″ x 51″, $72500 Japanese Maples, oil on linen, 23″ x 23″, $1600 Silver Road, oil on aluminum, 39″ x 39″, $5300 Base painting on the easel.
