Open Wide and say Ahhhh I became obsessed with Street Art on the platform of the LIRR. It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Salt Lake Sky”, 20″ x 30″, oil on linen, $1800 Sherwood Island, Winter Beach, oil on canvas, 18″ x 18″,$1100 Moon over the NJ Shore #2 “Matrix”, oil on brushed aluminum, 19″ x 15″, SOLD “Full Tilt”, 37″ x 39″, oil on aluminum, $5100 “Off Trail PC”R, 13″ x 16”, oil on canvas, $600 “Blue Horizon”, oil on aluminum, 19″ x 15″ $975 Cone Flower Farm Firestorm, oil on brushed aluminum panel, 71” x 52”, $13,500 Sherwood Salt Marsh, 23″ x 29″, Oil on canvas, $1900, “Spiraling Fauna”, 39″ x 51″, acrylic spray paint on steel, Sold Sand Island 18′ x 24″, oil on linen, $1300 “Metamorphosis”, acrylic spray paint on steel, 39″ x 51″, $6000 “Slide”, 23″ x 23″ oil on aluminum, Sold Through the Storm, oil on brushed aluminum panel, 51 x 63 $10,500 Big Red, acrylic on steel, 39″ x 51″, $7250 Playful Orange, 36″ x 48″ Silver Falls, 40″ x 40″, Oil on steel, Sold Vortex Bleeding Poppy, 16″x 16″ Moth-flower Aglow “Pony Marsh #2, 11” x 14″+ frame, Sold Detail of the shadow at the base of the mountain. Twisted Web, oil on brushed aluminum, 19″ x 15″, $975 I became obsessed with Street Art on the platform of the LIRR. “Aerial Blush”, oil on aluminum, 15″ x 19″, $975 “Sherwood Inverted”, 25″ x 37″, oil on steel.
