I became obsessed with Street Art on the platform of the LIRR. It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Blue Horizon”, oil on aluminum, 19″ x 15″ $975 Playful Orange, 36″ x 48″ “Tidal Pool”, 24″x24″, oil on linen, $1700 “Silver Lining”, 41″ X 41″, oil on steel, Sold Carmen, acrylic on steel, 39″ x 51″,$7250 Big Red, $7250, Tidal Pools, $2750 in a NYC apartment. “First Snow”, 40″ x 40″, Oil on steel, $5600 Snæfellsjökull National Park, Snæfellsbær, Western Iceland, Iceland Winter Beach #2, Oil on canvas, 14″ x 18″, $900 Spring Thaw, oil on a brushed aluminum panel, 39″ x 39″, $5300 “Red Sky at Night”, 24″ x 24″, oil on linen, $1700 “Butterfly Wings”, oil on brushed aluminum, 27″ x 27″, $2500 Ablaze, oil on brushed aluminum, 27 x 51, Sold Summer’s Twilight, oil on brushed aluminum, 19″ x19″, $1250 “Summer Storm”, 15.5″ x 19.5″, etching ink on paper, $975 Manley Beach Sunset, Australia Downstream, Hope Creek, oil on canvas, 21″ x 21″, $1350 Earth Day Clean Up, before… Japanese Maples, oil on linen, 23″ x 23″, $1600 “Metamorphosis”, acrylic spray paint on steel, 39″ x 51″, $6000 “Big Red”, 40″ x 52″, acrylic spray paint on steel, $7250 Georgiana, 10″ x 12″, oil on canvas, $400 “Tuileries”, oil on linen, 24″ x 24″ $1700 Mountain Triptych, panel 2 of 3, 24″ x 48″, Oil on aluminum, $7000 Surreal Parade Earth Day clean up, after!
