It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Wildflower Meadow”, 24″ x 36″, oil on steel, $500 framed “Half Moon Bay”, 24″ x 24″,oil on linen, $1700 Overton’s, 24″ x 36″, Oil on aluminum Fairfield Beach, 24″x 36″, oil on steel, sold Overton’s “Crevice”, oil on aluminum, 40″ x 52″, $6900 Carmen, acrylic on steel, 39″ x 51″,$7250 Arts and Crafts Flora Avalanche, oil on brushed aluminum panel, 19″ x 15″, $975 Cliffs of Carmel, oil on linen, 20″ x 20″, $1200 “Tuileries”, oil on linen, 24″ x 24″ $1700 Lauren’s Rose, 38″ x 46″ LA Sky, 27″ x 27″, oil paint on a brushed aluminum panel, $2500 Bleeding Poppy, 16″x 16″ Winter Beach #2, Oil on canvas, 14″ x 18″, $900 “Red Sky at Night”, 24″ x 24″, oil on linen, $1700 “Shady Stars”, 21″ x 21″, acrylic spray paint on steel, Sold Playful Orange, 36″ x 48″ Snowbird Melting, oil on brushed aluminum panel, 51 x 51, $8750 Bleeding Poppy, 16″x 16″ Morning Ride in Wilton, oil on linen, 24″ x 30″, $2200 Miami Art Show at the Eduardo Lira Art Gallery2075 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33127 Earth Day clean up, after!
