It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Half Moon Bay”, 24″ x 24″,oil on linen, $1700 Snowbird Melting, oil on aluminum panel, 51″ x 51″, $8750 Open Wide and say Ahhhh January Eye Tungubakkar, Reykjavík, Iceland Ribbons of Blue, oil on brushed aluminum, 27″ x 27″, SOLD “Silvery Moon” Triptych, 48″ x 100″ appx, oil on aluminum, Sold Delphinium, acrylic on steel, 51″ x 39″, $7250 Wild Flower, 24″ x 36″ Murdock Peak – Altitude, 9602’ Sherwood Salt Marsh, 23″ x 29″, Oil on canvas, $1900, Dancing Pine, 10″ x 12″, oil on canvas, $400 “Going Home”, 13″ x 15″, oil on canvas, $725 “Full Tilt”, 37″ x 39″, oil on aluminum, $5100 Helgafellssveit, Western Iceland, Iceland “Half Moon Bay”, 24″ x 24″,oil on linen, $1700 I really love the abstract quality of the shadow on the wall in this one. “right-beside-me,” oil painting by Carol O’Malia “Sherwood Inverted”, 25″ x 37″, oil on steel, $3300 “Silver Meadow”, 24″ x 36″, oil on steel, $2600 Vines above Celestial Rhapsody, oil on a brushed aluminum panel, 99″ x 51″, Sold Solar Reveal, 42″ x 54″ oil on steel, Sold “I Am the Sky”, oil on brushed aluminum panel, 39” x 39”, $5800.
