It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Wildflower Meadow”, 24″ x 36″, oil on steel, $500 framed Home from Deer Valley, 24″x24″ sold Very cool abstract and inspires thoughts for my abstract hatch mark paintings. Work in progress Moon over the NJ Shore #3 “Red Sky at Night”, 24″ x 24″, oil on linen, $1700 I became obsessed with Street Art on the platform of the LIRR. “Early Morning Road to JFK”, 16″ x 35″, oil on steel, Sold “Grey Sky at the Beach”, 8″ x 8″, oil on wood panel, $200 Carmel Trees, oil on brushed aluminum panel, 27″ x 27″, $2500 “Skating on the Bridge”, 51″ x 51″, oil on aluminum panel, Sold Soft Pink, 36″ x 48″ Wild Flower, 24″ x 36″ Rugged Grandeur, oil on brushed aluminum, 15″ x19″ Off Trail in Park City, Oil on canvas, 13″ x 16″ , $700 Outside entrance to the Eduardo Lira Art Gallery for the Miami 2.0 Artbox Show 2019!
