It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Where There is Smoke, There is Fire” 16″ x 18″, oil on aluminum, $975. “Going Home”, 13″ x 15″, oil on canvas, $725 “right-beside-me,” oil painting by Carol O’Malia Winter Beach #1, Oil on canvas, 14″ x 18″, $900 Carmel by the Sea, inspirational tree photo. “Metamorphosis”, acrylic spray paint on steel, 39″ x 51″, $6000 “Aerial Blush”, oil on aluminum, 15″ x 19″, $975 Sherwood Salt Marsh, 23″ x 29″, Oil on canvas, $1900, “First Snow”, 40″x 40″, oil on aluminum, $5600 Underpass, Into the Light, oil on brushed aluminum. 39″ x 39″, $5300 Manley Beach Sunset, Australia Vivian Westwood Early Morning Flight, Oil on an aluminum panel, 16″x 16″, $975 No Boundaries, oil on aluminum, 27″ x 27″, $2500 Summer Storm, 24″ x 36″ unframed, Oil on canvas, Sold “Silver Snow”, 39″ x 51″, Oil on steel, Sold Silver Road, oil on aluminum, 39″ x 39″, Sold Miami Art Show at the Eduardo Lira Art Gallery2075 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33127 Late Afternoon, 48″ x 60″ “Acid Test”, oil on brushed aluminum, 15″ x 15″, $800 “Ridgelines”, 40″ x 52″, oil paint on an aluminum panel, $6900 Dreamscape, oil paint on a brushed aluminum panel, 27″ x 27″, Sold Neon Rose, 36″ x 48″ unframed, Acrylic on steel, $350, California Carmel by the Sea, Sunset Salt Lake City, 19″ x 34″, oil on linen $1900 “Ridgelines”, 40″ x 52″, oil paint on an aluminum panel, $6900 “Spiraling Flora” in a Deer Valley home.
