It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “First Snow”, 40″ x 40″, Oil on steel, $5600 Accobonac Harbor, 18″ x 24″, oil on line, $1300 Earth Day Clean Up, before… “Tropical Red”, 21″x 21″ acrylic spray paint on steel, Sold “Half Moon Bay”, 24″ x 24″,oil on linen, $1700 The Kemper, Kansas City, MO Tannery Row, 8″ x 8″ unframed, oil on canvas, $225, Utah “Silver Meadow”, 24″ x 36″, oil on steel, $2600 Painting by Eric Schmidt Very cool abstract and inspires thoughts for my abstract hatch mark paintings. “Delphinium”, acrylic spray paint on steel, 51″x 39″, $7250 Shadow Woman – Patriot, oil on aluminum, 27″ x 27″, $2250 “Half Moon Bay”, 24″ x 24″,oil on linen, $1700 Dancing Pine, oil on canvas, 10″ x 12″, $425 Miami Art Show at the Eduardo Lira Art Gallery2075 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33127 “Early Morning Road to JFK” in a New Mexico desert home. “Silver Falls”, 40″x 40″, Oil on steel, Sold Manley Beach Sunset, Australia Downstream, Hope Creek, oil on canvas, 21″ x 21″, $1350 Fire on the Mountain, oil on brushed aluminum, 27″ x 27″, $2500 Aspen Eyes Silver Road, oil on aluminum, 39″ x 39″, $5300 Off Trail in Park City, Oil on canvas, 13″ x 16″ , $700 Wasatch Fog, oil on white aluminum, 23″ x 23″, $1700 Wild Flower, 24″ x 36″ Murdock Peak – Altitude, 9602’ Carmel by the Sea, inspirational tree photo. “Aqua Shots”, 21″x 21″, acrylic spray paint on steel, Sold Sundance in Summer, oil on linen, 32″ x 26″, $2900 Bleeding Poppy, 16″x 16″ Above the Clouds, oil paint on a brushed aluminum panel, 39″ x 51″, Sold Morning Fog Midway, 16″ x 20″ Oil on canvas.
