I became obsessed with Street Art on the platform of the LIRR. It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Grey Sky at the Beach”, 8″ x 8″, oil on wood panel, $200 Icy View from Saugatuck Bridge Lava Road, 36″ x 51″, oil on steel, $6400 Moonbeams, oil on brushed aluminum panel, 19″ x 15″, $975 Early Morning Flight, Oil on an aluminum panel, 16″x 16″, $975 “Early Morning Road to JFK”, 16″ x 35″, oil on steel, Sold “Plaza Mayor”, 14″ x 14″ oil on canvas, $600 Work in progress Dancing Pine, 10″ x 12″, oil on canvas, $400 Train to Seville, framed, Oil on canvas, 12″ x 14″ $550 Summer’s Twilight, oil on brushed aluminum, 19″ x19″, $1250 Late Afternoon, 48″ x 60″ Lakeside View Miami Art Show at the Eduardo Lira Art Gallery2075 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33127 Desert Highway, oil on brushed aluminum, 27″ x 51″, Sold Silver Horizon, oil on aluminum,15″ x 19″, Sold Playful Orange, 36″ x 48″ Twilight 48th Street, oil on canvas, 18″ x 24″, $1300 Firestorm, oil on brushed aluminum, 27″ x 51″, Sold Silvery Moon, Triptych, 48″ x 100″, oil on aluminum, Sold “Silver Falls”, 40″x 40″, Oil on steel, Sold Lauren’s Rose, 38″ x 48″,Acrylic on recycled, distressed board, $6400, Carmen, acrylic on steel, 39″ x 51″,$7250 Twisted Web, oil on brushed aluminum, 19″ x 15″, $975 “Connor’s Ride” 14″ x 14″, oil on linen, $600 California Sunshine Morning Ride in Wilton, oil on linen, 24″ x 30″, $2200 “Silver Snow” in a modern New Mexico retreat.
