It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “Silver Meadow”, 24″ x 36″, oil on steel, $2600 Ablaze, oil on brushed aluminum, 27 x 51, $4100 “Full Tilt”, 37″ x 39″, oil on aluminum, $5100 “Aerial Blush”, oil on aluminum, 15″ x 19″, $975 Cone Flower Farm Mountain Triptych, panel 1 of 3, 24″ x 48″, Oil on aluminum Crawling Under, oil on brushed aluminum, 19″ x 15″, $975 Surreal Parade “Sunrise on the Wasatch Mountains” 19″ x 34″ “Grey Sky at the Beach”, 8″ x 8″, oil on wood panel, $200 Clair McCardell, American, 1929-38, 1940-58 Big Red, acrylic on steel, 39″ x 51″, $72500 Athos, oil paint on a brushed aluminum panel, 15″ x 15″, $800 Frost, oil on brushed aluminum panel, 19″ x 15″ “Early Morning Road to JFK”, 16″ x 35″, oil on steel, Sold Grundarfjarðarbær, Western Iceland, Iceland Kings Highway North, Oil on steel, 40″ x 30″, $3600 “Fairy Flower”, 36″ x 48″, acrylic on canvas, $7300 Firestorm, oil on brushed aluminum, 27″ x 51″, Sold Aramis, oil paint on a brushed aluminum panel, 15″ x 15″, $800 Spiraling Fauna, 2015, 39 x 51, oil on steel, Sold Overton’s, 24″ x 36″, Oil on aluminum Moon over the NJ Shore #1 Shadow Woman – Patriot, oil on aluminum, 27″ x 27″, $2250 Pestilence arrives in NYC “Summer Storm”, 15.5″ x 19.5″, etching ink on paper, $975 Dreamscape, oil paint on a brushed aluminum panel, 27″ x 27″, Sold Falling Up, Oil on a brushed aluminum panel, 16″x 16″, $975 Georgiana, oil on canvas, 10″ x 12″, $425 “I Am the Sky”, oil on brushed aluminum panel, 39” x 39”, $5800.
