I started this piece after I saw the retrospective of artist Ed Roche in NYC a while back. I love artists that use words in their art and wanted to give it a try. There is a fairly new publication called “Snow” that I picked up in the Delta Lounge. It is a beautiful magazine with loads of high end ski stuff from resorts to clothes/equipment and all things apres ski. They use this wonderful font called “Didot”. I blew it up and hand painted it on my panel. It took me quite awhile to figure out if I wanted to paint over it or around it or how to proceed. It stayed in a time out in my studio for about a year.
I had already done “When the Snow Flies”, (below). In this piece I used a thin white glaze over the trees and slopes to create a cold, snowy, whimsical effect in the painting. These complimentary paintings would make a great set for any home in a climate where we are all wishing for snow. They are available now at The Summit Gallery in Park City. The gallery can ship world wide to any snowy climate! Please stop by to see them in person when you are in town. Also, mark your calendars for February 28/March 1st when I will be painting live in the Summit Gallery as the “Featured Artist”! See you there!
