The Armory Art Show is one of the largest art shows in New York City. Each year it spawns lots of other smaller art shows, art festivals and artists open studios for all to see. I enjoyed exploring all of these different venues and saw loads of art. New York City is back in full swing and everyone was happy to show their vaccination cards and mask up for the events. This is our new reality, for the time being anyway. I thought I would share works from two of the artists that really stood out from the rest in the Armory Art Show in this post.
Carla Jay Harris
Ms. Harris is a digital artist. I was astounded to learn this as I have never seen digital art like this before. She explores ancient myths, layering photos and colors in a very imaginative way. I was drawn into each mystical piece and wanted to know more about what was happening in each of the worlds she created.
Annie Lapin
Ms. Lapin reached into my psyche and pulled out what I imagine in my conscious state to be a dream. Bits and pieces of feelings and emotions in a crazy chaotic order. Each painting is exquisitely executed, multi-dimensional with overlapping planes. The color palettes are very striking and yet subdued adding to the intrigue and surreal feeling of each piece. They are unsettling, yet you can not stop looking at them. My eye went to the serene skies and bits of landscape that peek through and then my mind wanted to understand the push and pull of the picture plain. Please take a moment to scroll through this gallery and feel each piece. It is fascinating work.
