I usually mask around the area of the panel that I paint so it has a nice mat like frame within the actual frame. I have been experimenting with cutting shapes from the plastic cover of the aluminum panel and painting over it, then peeling it off to reveal the silver underneath. The effect is rather whimsical! It is super-fun, you have to think kind of backwards while you cut.
