My mom, her sister Helen, my brother, a friend or two and I would pack a picnic lunch and hike though the woods every Columbus Day for as long as I can remember in my youth. The cool crisp air, the musty smell of the leaves crunching under our feet, waterfalls, sweet apple cider and cinnamon doughnuts; these are fond memories I hope never to forget. When I lived in Connecticut, I would hike the Devil’s Den in the fall to awaken this slumbering memory in my soul. That is the inspiration for this painting. It will be in the fall show at the Lafayette Town Hall Theater from October 8th through December 10th. Stop by and take a peak at my very happy memory.
