It was mid-afternoon, no one was there, and I wasn’t sure I was in the right place to go into Manhattan. A man approached and we started talking. He was “Solus” a street artist from Dublin Ireland who was in town to work with “The Bushwick Collective” on the murals in Brooklyn. This was a few years ago, before it became super popular. He was telling me about the murals he had planned for some walls in Manhattan and that he was invited to participate in “Art Basel” in Miami. At this point I thought he was telling some tall tales so when I got on the train I googled him. It was all true. I investigated the Bushwick Collective and my love of Street Art was born. Interpreting flowers in spray paint brings a modern edge to a traditional subject. The veils of color create softness and new colors, blending the edges and building a rich hue on the flat surface of the silver steel. In this piece, I experimented with masking, using cut out curves and edges to shield the panel while layering colors on top. “First Snow”, 40″ x 40″, Oil on steel, $5600 “Day is Done”, oil on brushed aluminum, 15″ x 19″, $975 Miami Art Show at the Eduardo Lira Art Gallery2075 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33127 “Sunrise on the Wasatch Mountains” 19″ x 34″ “Silver Lake”, 39″ x 27″, Oil on steel, $3700 Trent Call’s Tweety Bird with Mining Carts Salt Lake City, 19″ x 34″, oil on linen $1900 “Weeping Sky”, oil on aluminum, 51″ x 39″, Sold “Whispers”, oil on aluminum, 39″ x 51″, $6900 Helgafellssveit, Western Iceland, Iceland “Off Trail PC”R, 13″ x 16”, oil on canvas, $600 Mountain Triptych, all panels, 48″ x 96″, Oil on aluminum, $7400 Stillness in Motion, Oil on white aluminum panel, 51″ x 51″, “Half Moon Bay”, 24″ x 24″,oil on linen, $1700 I really love the abstract quality of the shadow on the wall in this one.
