Vertigo 2

Vertigo 2, metalic acrylic, mixed medium on canvas, 30 x 60I like the concept of distorting space in a landscape to create an interaction with the viewer. After hot air ballooning a while ago, I had done the first Vertigo painting, and I have expanded on that concept with this big guy, on a 30″ x 60″ canvas.  I used some liquid media to add texture, and tried this metallic acrylic paint I found that has a pearlescent glow.  I have been moving it around my house to see it in different lights, and it changes dramatically in each setting—the darker the room, the more definition of the dark values, and the greater the reflection of  the brighter golds.

With most art it’s all about the light, you’ve done it again with yet another perspective. Love warmth, feels like summer…..but sure of the season.

I wanted to explore warm dessert tones and the metallic paint gives it a nice modern edge, which seems to be in vogue these days. I like your comment about the season, it leaves it open to interpretation. I had thought about running some gold leaf down the mountains, which may have suggested winter and ski runs but in the end I thought it would add too much detail and take away from the overall feeling. Hard to know when to quit sometimes. This is such a big piece I thought I would experiment with a smaller one with the gold. Stay tuned…
